It was good to see so many Somerset Junior players competing in different age sections at the South of England Junior Championships at Yateley Manor School on the 26th and 27th January 2019.

Under 15s

Max Walker won the U15s with 4/5 points, and Lawrence Fields finished in equal 4th on 3/5 points.

Under 13s

Jacob Hoyes competed in the Under 13s section.

Under 11s

In a large field on 75 entrants, Matthew Timbrell, Ernie Fields and Kandara Acharya all finished with 3/5 points.

Under 10s

Gabriel Keech scored 4.5/6 and finished in equal 3rd place; and Kirin Ranpura scored 3/6 points.

Under 9s

Dyansa Gunatilake competed in her first 2-day chess event, in the Under 9s section.

Under 8s

Finley Beviss scored 3/6 in the under 8s and tied for 13th place.

 

Competing against some of the strongest junior chess players in the country is great experience, and we congratulate all players for making the journey and taking part.
