The 4th and final round of the Somerset Junior Chess Grand Prix 2018/19 season was held in St. Michael’s CofE Junior School in Bath. This is the first time the school has held a chess tournament and we thank them for hosting the event.
We also welcomed new players, taking part in their first SJC Grand Prix event. We hope all players and parents enjoyed the day and hope to see you again when the 2019/20 season begins again in Autumn 2019.
There were some familiar age section winners, but also a new winner in the U11s, and some players picking up their first runners-up awards and medals. Demonstrating that practise and determination to keep going can provide rewards for the hard work. And for players who did not collect a medal, we hope that the games you played can help you find ways to improve and return to compete stronger next year.
The U16 section was won by Gaetan Manuovel and Jack Liu, and the U12s won by Kandara Acharya. A notable ”well done” to Jonathan Zeng who has improve his scores at each event this year and won a tough U11s section. The U10s was won by Gabriel Keech and the U9s had joint winners with Dyansa Gunatilake and Dwiti Acharya. Adri Van Hensbergen scored a perfect 6 points in the U8, and the U7s was won by Theophile Grand. Congratulations to all winners and all taking part.
The final league tables for the 2018/19 season include results for all four rounds.
