The annual London & South East vs Rest of England match took place on 15th June 2019 in Twickenham. This was organised by EPSCA and is two round match for Under 11’s played over 13 boards this year.
Same as the recent Wales vs South West England match, teams were selected by EPSCA based on good performance at selected junior chess tournaments throughout the year. Two players from the SJC Grand Prix 2018/19 season were selected: Matthew Timbrell and Ernie Fields.
As you would expect, players were of a high grading and provided tough opposition, with London & SE players typically out-grading the Rest of England team here. With this in mind, Matthew and Ernie did very well to secure their results against higher graded opponents. Matthew secured two draws and Ernie one draw.
The London and S E England team won the match overall. London & SE won Round 1: 7.5-5.5 and at the time we left the venue, they were winning Round 2: 7.5-4.5 with one game to finish.
Congratulations to the Somerset Junior Chess players selected to take part in this event.
