There are two chess grading systems that you may encounter; ECF
(English Chess Federation) and FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs or World Chess Federation).

ECF gradings are updated twice a year, based on the performance of the player in ECF-graded tournaments during the previous six month period.

What do I need to do?

If you would like to get an ECF grading, then you need to join the ECF, for which there is an annual fee. We recommend getting a Silver membership, as this is often the minimum that tournaments require. Join or renew membership of the ECF.
