London & South East v Rest of England Junior Chess Results 2019

The annual London & South East vs Rest of England match took place on 15th June 2019 in Twickenham. This was organised by EPSCA and is two round match for Under 11’s played over 13 boards this year.

Same as the recent Wales vs South West England match, teams were selected by EPSCA based on good performance at selected junior chess tournaments throughout the year. Two players from the SJC Grand Prix 2018/19 season were selected: Matthew Timbrell and Ernie Fields.

Wales vs South West England Junior Chess Results 2019

On Sunday 2nd June 2019, Wales and South West England junior chess players competed against each other in a team event held in Chepstow. There were two age sections:

  • Wales Under 14’s vs South West England Under 14’s
  • Wales Under 11’s vs South West England Under 11’s

There were 12 boards in each age section, with players selected by EPSCA based on their performance at other events. Three players in the 2018/19 SJC Grand Prix season each played two rounds and contributed to the S W England score.

EPSCA England Junior Chess Team U11 Trials 2019: Results

The EPSCA England U11 team trials were held on the 27th and 28th April 2019 in Liverpoool. The trials were for those players qualifying from tournaments held throughout the UK during the 2018/19 season. Ernie Fields and Matthew Timbrell both achieved the required qualification for the trials, and competed in 6 games against some of the best Under 11’s in the UK.

The Girls Under 11’s county team final was held in March 2019. Somerset were not represented with a full team, however, Kandara Acharya featured on Board 2 for the Wiltshire team and achieved a maximum 3 wins from her 3 games.

EPSCA Inter-Association County Team Championship 2019 Final: Results

The Final of the EPSCA Inter-Association County Team Championship 2019 took place in Solihull on 30th March 2019. The Somerset Under 11’s team qualified from the semi-final round and competed against 15 other teams in this national final.

EPSCA Inter-Association County Team Championship 2019: Semi-Final Results

The semi-final rounds of both the Under 9s and Under 11s EPSCA County Team championships take place in March 2019.

The U11s enjoyed a tense battle with other counties, and played extremely well to qualify for the final.  The U9s played well, but unfortunately did not qualify for the final this year.

The British Rapidplay Chess Championships 2018 took place on the weekend of the 24th and 25th November 2018 in Ilkley, North Yorkshire. There were several Somerset Juniors who made the long journey and took part in this prestigious event in the British Chess calendar.

National Primary School Chess Championship 2018: Semi-Final Results

The Semi-Final stage of the National Primary School Chess Champtionships 2018 took place at Bristol Grammar School on 12th May 2018.

This was one of three semi-finals taking place across the country, and as such there were many Somerset schools represented. The event in Bristol also included schools from further afield, including Nottingham, London and North Cheshire.

EPSCA Inter-Association County Team Championship 2018: Semi-Final Results

The semi-final rounds of both the Under 9 and Under 11 EPSCA County Team championships took place earlier this month.

The standard of chess is very high at county level, and all players should be proud of representing their county and competing alongside some of the very best junior chess players in the country. It is a great opportunity to play against different players, and to be supporting team mates rather than competing against them through the grand prix season!
